The last-minute exam jitters and a sweeping sense of panic before writing the Common Admission Test (CAT), to secure a seat at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), are feelings that Abhishek Thakore is familiar with.

The IIM-B alumnus scored 99.85 percentile to gain admission to the B-school not too long ago. In a bid to make it easy for candidates attempting CAT-2009 exam, Abhishek wrote an e-book, “The CAT Chronicles” and made it available online.

“Closer to the d-day, anxiety-level of students is very high. Many feel lost and don’t know how to go about their preparation, especially in the last one or two months before the exam. Based on my experience, I have written this e-book and have ensured that it is available online for free,” Abhishek said.

The book is a concise 28-page chronicle and can be downloaded from the website www.pagalguy.com. The former IIM student has held workshops and talks on CAT in Mumbai for the benefit of the aspirants.

However, he felt that there was a limit to the number of candidates he could help offline. That is how the idea for the book took shape.

“With CAT going online, students are more worried than before because they don’t know what to expect from this new medium. An online CAT does have benefits because students can choose the slot they want to take the test in. They can see how it was received and react accordingly,” he explained.

The book has elicited an enthusiastic response. Aspirants have both thanked him and have also sent in their queries.

“I think around 750 to 1,000 people wrote back to me. Some of them wanted answers to specific CAT-related questions, others highlighted the complete distress and tension they were feeling,” Abhishek said.

Asked why his book was made available free of cost, Abhishek stated, “I just wanted to help a few candidates and this wasn’t done expecting any financial returns.”
