A 40-year-old truck driver fell off a flyover near Dasarahalli, Tumkur Road, in the wee hours of Tuesday. He was earlier chased down and beaten up by members of Prani Daya Sangha (PDS) from Koramangala. The Peenya police have registered a murder case against PDS members.

The victim, Krishnappa, was a resident of Vijayapura, near Devanahalli. The police said PDS members also roughed up the truck cleaner Babu John.

A few PDS workers were at Kunigal Cross on Tumkur Road at 2am on Tuesday. They stopped a truck laden with cows heading towards the city and handed over the vehicle to Nelamangala police. A few minutes later, they tried to stop another truck transporting cows.

However, the driver did not stop the truck, and the workers gave chase in a car. Finally, the truck was stopped at Dasarahalli flyover at 2.30am. The PDS members thrashed driver Krishnappa and John.

In the melee, Krishnappa fell off the flyover and sustained serious injuries.

The PDS members shifted him to Sparsha Hospital in Nelamangala and then to KC General Hospital, where he was declared brought dead at 5.30am.

John, too, was admitted to the hospital. John later filed a complaint against the PDS members. He said they stole money from Krishnappa and then pushed him from the flyover.
Krishnappa’s body has been handed over to his family after postmortem in MS Ramaiah Hospital.

“We have taken John’s statement and he also filed a complaint against PDS, Koramangala. We have registered a case of murder, dacoity and attempted to murder against PDS. The investigation  will reveal whether Krishnappa fell accidentally or he was pushed. The autopsy report will give a clearer picture about the cause of death,” said HS Revanna, deputy commissioner of police (North).
