The police have registered a case against two students of Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology at Mudugurki village near Devanahalli for abetting the suicide of BE student V Alok Ranjan on Saturday. But the students will be arrested only after their role in Ranjan’s suicide is confirmed, police said.

Police said an FIR has been filed against the two students based on the suicide note written by Ranjan, who allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train at Attibele village near Devanahalli. In his suicide note, Ranjan alleged that his seniors had ragged him over his affair with a girl in the college and that his girlfriend and her new boyfriend assaulted him near the college library on Friday.

Police did not reveal the names of the students mentioned in the FIR. They also registered a case against Ranjan’s lover.
The students who allegedly harassed Ranjan are under police scanner, a senior police officer said. “We will not take immediate action against the students as we do not want to destroy their future. But, we will arrest them if our investigation confirms their role in Ranjan’s death.”

Handwriting experts called
Meanwhile, police sought help from handwriting experts to ascertain who wrote the suicide note found near Ranjan’s body. Ranjan’s father Vijay Kumar alleged that the suicide note was not written by his son as the handwriting of the person who wrote the letter did not match that of his son.
The police also sent the viscera of the body to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Madiwala to verify whether Ranjan consumed poison before death.

“His parents alleged that someone might have put him on the railway track after giving him poison or chemicals to make him unconscious. The FSL report will reveal whether he consumed anything before he died. But, the doctors who conducted the autopsy said he was killed due to injuries he suffered when the train ran over him,” a police officer said.

Police also recorded statements of Ranjan’s friends, including his roommate. “We will also question his lover and her new boyfriend,” he added.

Ranjan, a native of Darbhanga in Bihar and a resident of Devanahalli, was a fourth-semester student of BE Electronic Communication.
