BANGALORE: A young Mahadevapura housewife learnt a lesson the hard way when she opened the doors without checking, to a stranger posing as a car loan agent.
The miscreant tied her up and made away with Rs85,000 cash and 45 grams of gold ornaments.
The incident occurred at about 2.15 pm on Monday when 25-year-old Sangeetha responded to a knock on the door of her house in Chinnapanahalli in Mahadevapura. Though alone at home with her one-year-old daughter, Sangeetha opened the door without checking who it was.
The unidentified miscreant introduced himself as a car loan agent and started explaining to her about various schemes offered by his 'bank.'
When he was assured of her full attention, he suddenly pushed her inside, closed the door, and threatened her at knife-point.
According to Mahadevapura police, he then tied her up along with her little daughter, and demanded to know where the money was kept in the house.
After pocketing the cash of Rs85,000, he relieved her of 45 grams of gold ornaments valued about Rs55,000 before escaping, leaving the mother and daughter tied.
Fortunately, the miscreant had not gagged her and had left the door open while escaping, making it easy for her to scream and alert her neighbours, who arrived on the scene and untied her.
Neither Sangeetha nor her little daughter sustained injuries but were in a state of shock when the neighbours found them.
Sangeetha's husband Praveen Kumar, who owns a hardware shop in the same locality, was at work when the incident happened.
The police have registered a case under section 392 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to punishment for robbery.
Sangeetha in her complaint has stated that the miscreant was aged about 35, fair-complexioned and wore an orange coloured T-shirt.
