Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and state BJP chief KS Eshwarappa had an angry exchange of words on Monday at a meeting of state BJP leaders and ministers. The meeting had been called to chalk out a road map to the state’s development in the next two years.

Eshwarappa’s reference to Yeddyurappa’s ‘nepotism’ denting the party image is said to have infuriated the chief minister, who, in turn accused the state party boss of indulging in petty politics.

However, ministers S Suresh Kumar and VS Acharya managed to calm down the leaders, before the meeting proceeded with its agenda.

The meeting is believed to have decided to ask relatives of all ministers to steer clear of official work. The chief minister, along with Eshwarappa, reviewed the ministers’ performance during the past three years and sought suggestions to prepare an action plan for development.

He advised the ministers to take firm steps towards the effective implementation of special schemes announced in the 2011-12 state budget. He stressed on the importance of the implementation of agriculture budget, especially Suvarna Bhoomi, desilting of tanks, loan to farmers at 1%, organic farming and other programmes.

Barring a few, almost all ministers submitted their department’s performance and communicated their suggestions to Yeddyurappa. Additionally, preparation for cabinet expansion and for the by-elections in 17 constituencies and other issues were also discussed in the meeting.
