MYSORE: In first ever incident from Mysore relating to alleged crime carried out by hijras/transgenders, an incident reported from Jayapura in Mysore district has sure shocked the conservative society in the heritage city.

The incident of Manju, now changed into Manjula, has come to light after the Bangalore Police busted a racket of sex change of kidnapped boys and forcing them into prostitution.

A minor boy Manju from K Salundi village near Mysore was allegedly kidnapped sex change operation was performed on him under the heavy effect of sedatives, without obtaining his consent whatsoever.

P Manju (16), son of Pachegowda and Sakamma, hailing from lower middle class background, had gone missing since May 6. When he returned home recently, his parents were overjoyed, but only for a brief while since the boy had dressed up like a girl. He then narrated his tale of pain and agony since his alleged 'kidnap' by two hijras when they bundled him into a van near D Banumaiah college on the busy Sayyaji Rao road on the pretext of begging money from him.

"An agrument ensued and they just forcibly took me away. I was shocked and didn't react. They gave me something to eat. That perhaps was laced with sedatives. I was later taken to Chennai and then to Mumbai. I was writhing in pain when I discovered my genitals were gone!," he reportedly told the police and said he could even identify the hijras who took him.

Manju was put into a begging job till he befriended a Marwari who helped him escape till Bangalore and then paid him for his onward journey till his village.

When contacted, the investigating inspector of Jayapura station Ashok Kumar said the case was being examined regarding Manju's prior behavior and mannerisms. "We don't want to beleive everything. We are looking at his early behaviour as well, before beleiving he was forced into it. If the charges are true, then we will bring the culprits to book," he said.

Though prima facie, Manju's charges seem quite 'beleivable', many questions have been haunting the experts regarding the whole 'kidnap' episode. Sayyaji Rao road, being the busiest, makes it difficult for crimes to take place without attracting the attention of atleast some persons.

That Manju did not raise an alarm when kidnapped and his whole 'conversation' with hijras raises some doubts about whether he had already known them beforehand, went partially with his own consent or was lured into it and now, was repenting the whole episode.
