Bangalore: The no-holds-barred attack on Sachin Tendulkar by Saamna continued on Sunday with the Shiv Sena mouthpiece accusing him of not "helping" any Marathi cricketer when he was the India skipper. Saamna did not even spare Rahul Dravid who, it said, was "loyal to Karnataka despite being a Marathi player."
"Players like Sachin have become rich because of game of cricket. Sachin's wealth has crossed Rs 200-crore mark. We expect Sachin to be as proud of Maharashtra as Saurav Ganguly is of Bengal," Sena MP Sanjay Raut said in an article in Saamna.
Raut questioned teammate Rahul Dravid's loyalty, saying he was more loyal to Karnataka despite being born to a Marathi family.
Raut called Sunil Gavaskar a "true Maharashtrian" who, he said, had given Test caps to many players from the state during his tenure as India captain. "Forget others, Sachin did not even support his friend Vinod Kambli," Raut said.Saamna's remarks have evoked angry reactions from a host of political leaders as also the BCCI, who came down heavily on the Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray for criticising Tendulkar for his "Mumbai belongs to India" statement, saying he was right and nobody could take objection to it.
