Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh was on a private visit to Bangalore on Saturday, but didn’t fail to take a dig at BJP and its local leaders.

At a time when factional feuding is at a high in the state’s ruling party, Singh said: “The BJP is trying to dump BS Yeddyurappa after squeezing him like a lemon. They used the Reddys’ money, and now want to throw both Yeddyurappa and the Reddys out.”

Referring to the BJP, Singh said: “Anna Hazare is simply being driven into this by very street-smart people. The whole purpose of this is to defame the Congress. This is not a mass movement; it’s totally driven by the BJP and the RSS.” Singh suggested that Anna should get rid of all those people around him.

Singh said he would have regretted if he had offended Anna in any way. “Yamraj wala tweet sirf ek joke tha [The tweet about Yamraj was just a joke],” he said.

After the Rajya Sabha failed to vote on the Lokpal Bill, Digvijay had tweeted: “Yamraj to Yamdut: jao ANNA ko le aao [Go, get Anna here]. Yamdut: Maharaj apne yahan sab theek hai Unko lane se ‘PARLOKPAL BILL’ ka andolan chalu ho jayega... [Sir, everything is all right here. By getting him here, a ‘PARLOKPAL BILL’ revolution will start].”

Singh termed the Anna movement as an anti-Congress and pro-BJP campaign. “Despite the BJP opposing constitutional status for the Lokpal, not a word from Team Anna or Annaji has come,” he said. He said the campaign was an effort to divert attention from Sangh’s activities to corruption.
