Biology paper leak: Students outraged

Pre-university students and their parents feel cheated as action has not been taken after the Biology examination paper leak.

“This is unfair since some of us have worked hard through the year for the exam. Just because the papers get leaked, there are some who score over others. It’s disappointing,” said Firdous Khanum, a second year PU student.

“After having taken the exam, I don’t want to do it again. However, justice demands that we should have a re-exam,” said the Biology student.  

 Iffath Fathima, another candidate, said an easy Biology paper became easier for those who got the leaked paper.
“The Biology paper was quite easy. Those who already knew the questions can easily score 90+,” she said. “The Biology paper had simple questions, the kind that are generally skipped. We now stand in an unfair position,” she said.

“It’s the meritorious students who are losing out. This is injustice that some students got hold of the questions beforehand. However, the saving grace is that for CET, PUC marks are not going to be considered,” said P Natraj, head of the department of Biology of Vijaya College.

Vallish Herur, director of BASE, a city-based organisation that imparts training in competitive examinations, said students would have to be ready for competitive exams.

 “It is unfair for those who have worked sincerely. However, now that a lot of competitive exams are coming up, the authorities should take a call,” he said.   

 Parents felt that their children had been put through difficult times because of the carelessness of the department.

“My daughter was very depressed when she heard about the leak. After having studied so hard for the exams, she didn’t want to take up a re- exam,” said a parent. A PU department official has ruled out re-exam for Biology.
