The last rites of Bettanagere Seena alias Srinivas, who died in a police encounter, was held on Saturday amid tight security. The Nelamangala police had tightened security in Bettanagere village and two KSRP platoons were deployed to prevent any untoward incident.

The last rites were held at his farm around 11.30 am and few relatives and villagers turned up. The police had videographed his funeral and many plainclothesmen were deployed to nab his associates. However none of them reportedly turned up.

Earlier on Friday night, his relatives had received the body from Rajarajeshwari hospital after autopsy. Seena was killed in a police encounter on Friday morning near Tavarekere on Magadi Road.

Rattled by Seena’s death and fearing a police encounter, one of his associates surrendered before the police on Saturday. He has been identified as Manja alias Jakkanahalli Manja, a labour contractor by profession.

After hearing about the encounter, he surrendered and Nelamangala rural police later handed him over to Nelamangala town police station for further investigations.

Five more arrested

Meanwhile the Nelamangala police have arrested five more persons, including Jakkanahalli Manja, in connection with BML Krishnappa murder case.

They have been identified as Abdulla of Islampura in Nelamangala, Narasimha of Mandya, Shivakumar and Kumara alias Kote Kumar of Shimoga.

The police have so far arrested over 30 persons for involvement in in the murder of Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat member and JD (S) leader. Krishnappa was brutally murdered on Tumkur Road on July 25.

Police said that seven more, including Harsha, Bande Manja and Venkatesh, were still absconding. They have also taken Kumar, secretary of Sunkkathammayanapalya Milk Federation in Magadi into custody. He had reportedly providing shelter to Bande Manja. Police hope that interrogating him may help in arresting the remaining accused.
