The website of the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) crashed on Sunday, preventing passengers of checking flight schedules and from accessing information about the closure of the runway. Several passengers said the website could not be accessed for most part of the day. An airport official said a minor glitch that affected the site was rectified at 8.30 pm.

Furthermore, the runway will be closed from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm till April 3 for maintenance work, which began on Sunday.

BIAL officials said they would offer various options to passengers to explore during the closure time. The airport has associated itself with KSTDC to offer vicinity tours to Nandi Hills and a Jain temple.

While making an announcement that the airport runway would be closed for carrying out maintenance work, the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) had said that answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) have been prepared and posted on the website.

Runway closed
On Sunday, flights operated as per the new slotting system, which has been scheduled by the Air Traffic Control, Airport Authority of India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

“All flights are scheduled as per the new slotting. The last push back was at 10.30 am and the first arrival was at 5.30 pm,” said an airport official.

The BIA handles approximately 340 flights every day.

However, with the closure of the runway, close to 50 takeoffs and landings were affected.
