A group of city dwellers alleges that the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has taken a U-turn on its promise of halting work for a flyover at Jakkasandra Road junction and resumed the work in dark.

About a dozen residents of nearby areas staged a protest on Tuesday at the construction site.

The BDA had agreed to halt work about two weeks ago when local residents’ associations had opposed it and Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar had intervened. They had asked the civic body to relook at its plan.

The residents on Tuesday alleged that after lying low for two weeks, the BDA has resumed the work, which is being carried on at night.

‘BDA barking up the wrong tree’
The residents say ill-managed traffic from Hosur Road crowds Sarjapur Road and thus the BDA should take steps to check traffic there.

“Something important is to be done on Hosur Road. That is a crucial first step. Let that be complete. Let fresh traffic studies be done before this is taken up,” says Vijayan Menon, member of Koramangala Initiative.

Seconding him, another member Muralidhar Rao said Madiwala checkpost and Total mall junction on Hosur Road were particularly problematic.

From these points, he said, drivers prefer to take Sarjapur Road instead of going via Silk Board junction.

Miffed by the short-term planning for city’s infrastructure, the residents have formed Koramangala Infrastructure Task Force two weeks ago. Its members are closely looking at infrastructure projects in the area.
