Manager of a private bank was found smothered to death at his residence in Bangalore today, a top police official said.

The deceased was identified as Shankar Pujari, 55. He was working as chief manager of Oriental Bank, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sonia Narang told PTI.

"Pujari was found smothered to death with a bedsheet. His body was found lying on the floor," she said, adding "the murder seems to have been committed by known persons as the miscreants have not forced entry. The door was opened by the deceased himself".

Pujari's wallet and mobile phone was found intact on the table while the two almirahs in the house "which apprently had been checked were found open", Narang said.

The murder came to light when the catering boy who used to supply food to Pujari came to his residence and rang the door bell and when there was no response, he pushed the door which was ajar and found Pujari lying sprawled on the floor.

Pujari's wife was residing in Mumbai along with their children.

"We are awaiting the arrival of Pujari's wife to get some information about all his contacts," Narang said.
