Upparpet police have busted a prostitution racket which allegedly trafficked girls from Bangladesh and forced them into prostitution in the city.

Acting on a complaint filed by one of the victims, police arrested five persons and rescued four girls — three Bangladeshis — on Monday.

The five accused have been identified as Mohammed Babu, 22, a native of Jessore district in Bangladesh, Rajesh, 33, a resident of Sanjaynagar, Mahesha, Ganesha, (both aged 24) and Umesh, 35, (all residents of Hassan district).

Babu, the main accused, brought girls from Bangladesh to Bangalore via West Bengal. He handed them over to Umesh, who used to send them to customers in the city.

Reshma approached Upparpet police on Monday night, complaining that she was forcibly brought to Bangalore 20 days ago. Babu had promised Reshma’s parents to arrange a job for the girl. She came to India without a valid passport.

Reshma, along with other girls, were locked inside a house at Vishveshwara Layout in Ullala. She managed to escape and reached the police station. Police have seized items worth Rs3 lakh. The rescued girls will be sent back to their native places.
