The deceased Murali had refused to grant a loan to Sampath, and also made derogatory remarks about his mother.
Refusal to grant a loan and passing lewd remarks about the mother and wife of a friend cost a man his life, police said on Wednesday. The burnt body of Murali, 22, a resident of Ananthapur near Yelahanka, was later found in Chikkaballapur. Investigation led to the arrest of a six-man gang.
Police identified the accused persons as Sampath Kumar, 29, Tirumalesha alias Murthy, 34, both residents of Kodigehalli, K Ramu, 29, a resident of Hunsmaranahalli, Gangarama alias Ganga, 29, and Ravi Kumar, 28, both from Singanayakanahalli, and Prabhakar alias Prabhu, 31, of Dibhur in Chikkaballapur.

Sampath plotted the murder of Murali along with his friends. They asked him to meet them near the ICICI Bank’s Yelahanka New Town branch on May 6. Murali met the men around 12.15 pm, and was kidnapped in a Maruti Omni. They took him towards Doddaballapur. A gang member followed the car on the victim’s
motorcycle.
They stopped at an isolated eucalyptus grove at Kundana in Devanahalli taluk to slit Murali’s throat, and removed valuables from the body. They later drove with the body to a forested area in Chikkaballapur, and burnt it after dousing the corpse with petrol around 5.30 pm.
Chikkaballapur rural police who found the burned body in the forest area filed a murder complaint. Police inspector MH Umesh said that Murali’s mobile phone call records helped them catch the accused. Murali’s motorcycle, gold jewellery and the Maruti Omni used in the offence were seized from the accused persons.
