The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, gave a temporary reprieve to the Bangalore Turf Club by a ordering a status quo on a case related to the shifting of the club to the periphery of the city.
The apex court, which partly heard the matter, adjourned the hearing. The next date of hearing is yet to be announced. Legal experts believe that it could come up next month or may take several months.
The high court had fixed September 22 as the date for the BTC to vacate the land following the expiry of its lease. The BTC’s claim that the land came to them by way of a grant and that they were the rightful owners had found no favour from the high court.
Senior counsel Venugopal presented the chronology of events leading to the BTC receiving the land from the then maharaja of Mysore.
The supreme court had posted September 7 for final orders and asked the concerned parties to file additional information that they wished to present. The state had not filed a counter to the issues raised by the BTC.
Meanwhile, BTC employees conducted an all-night homa on Monday, praying for a relief from the supreme court.
