Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have set an example for others by making the school campus environment-friendly by preparing a rainwater harvesting system, groundwater recharge structures, waste management practices and a solar-powered lighting system, reportedly costing `7 lakh.
The project, conceived and implemented by Technology Informatics Design Endeavour (TIDE) with funding from ADOBE India, helped install eight components inside the school campus.
Rema Rajan, assistant commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangatham, said: “The project is useful for urban students as many don’t have home gardens. We wish to replicate this in the other Kendriya Vidyalayas,” she said.
“We are willing to build similar set-ups in other schools. But we are a non-profit organisation. We needsponsors to set up such projects,” TIDE chairman NV Krishna said.
