The official website of the police has not been updated for long. What really takes the cake is that the commissioner’s name is not mentioned on the site (www.bcp.gov.in), much to the embarrassment of a department that guards the IT capital of the nation.
The police commissionerate was established in 1963 with 37 police stations. But, now it has 104 law and order police stations, 39 traffic police stations and one all-woman police station.
However, as per the website, the commissionerate has 87 police stations.
It has also failed to update information regarding the chain of command within the police force.
According to the website, the commissioner is being assisted by two joint commissioners of the rank of inspector general of police (IGP), two additional commissioners of police of the rank of deputy inspector general of police (DIG) and 15 superintendents of police in the designation of DCPs. However, the fact is that the police commissioner is now assisted by three joint commissioners of the rank of IGP, three additional commissioners of the rank of DIG and 18 DCPs.
The website states that the city occupies an area of 224.66 sq km and has a population of approximately 50 lakh.
However, the city’s area is currently more than 800 sq km and the population is 96 lakh.
When DNA contacted deputy commissioner of police (PRO), V Ramaiah, he was not available for comment. Deputy commissioner of police (administration), TG Krishna Bhatta, said he would make sure the website gets updated by Thursday.
