Finally, the much awaited safety trials of Namma Metro began on Monday. A special team from the Railway Designs and Standard Operations (RDSO) headquartered in Lucknow arrived in Bangalore with all instruments which would be used during the tests.

“The findings from these tests, which will be performed on the trains, will be to ensure passenger safety and design aspects of the track and trains. Oscillation and emergency brake distance tests are the main tests to be done on all the five trains,” said BLY Chavan, spokesman, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL).
Today, instruments for oscillation tests were installed in trains which took a trial run.

It would take at least 10 to 12 days to finish the trials. RDSO has brought instruments like track recording car to check the real time data while the trains are running on tracks. The design of the tracks to take the oscillations will be recorded by the team of experts from the institution.

“After the tests are done, the RDSO team, which is doing the inspection, will file a report with BMRCL and we will forward the same to the commissioner for railway safety, who will study them and come for inspection,” said Chavan.

However, the date of launching the metro would be jointly decided by the Centre and the state after agreeing on the commissioner’s report.
