Construction of the Metro station at the KSRTC’s bus station in Majestic is already in the preliminary stages. “The work is scheduled to begin soon. The contract has been awarded and resource mobilisation has already started. Preliminary marking for the Majestic station will begin on Saturday,” said BLY Chavan, spokesman of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) .

Although he did not say when the work would begin, he said the KSRTC station would be shifted when the Metro work gained speed.

“This will not take place right away, but we hope that, by April, the work will gain speed. Then they may have to move,” he said.
The KSRTC station would be shifted to the land that is not being used currently, he said.

In the meantime, the KSRTC continues to shift more of its services to the five satellite stations.  At least 600 of its services have already been moved to Shanthinagar, Mysore Road and NGEF.

About 200 services to Tamil Nadu and Kerala were shifted to Shanthinagar.  Another 300 services to Hyderabad, Raichur (Kurnool), Tirupathi and Mantralaya will be shifted to Shanthinagar by this month-end.

Buses going towards Mysore are already operating from the satellite station on Mysore Road and the NGEF station will see buses going towards Tirupathi, Chitoor, Vellore, and Chennai.
With the Peenya station probably ready in six months, services to the northeast and northwest places, such as Hubli and Dharwad, will also ply from here.

“More services will be shifted once the Peenya satellite station is completed. Once the station is ready, Tumkur-bound services and services to the northeast and northwest areas of Karnataka will operate from here,” said KSRTC officials.

The phasing out of the central station will serve two purposes.
First, it will pave way for the construction of Metro for which KSRTC had given 20 acres to BMRCL. Once the work is completed, 13 acres will be returned to KSRTC. Second, the spreading out of the stations will help in decongesting the city as fewer buses will be coming to this central place.  Despite the phasing out, officials are not sure whether the station would be completely shut down.
“Not all the buildings will be demolished. We do not have plans to shift all the services out of here. With the land that is available, we will continue services,” the officials said.

Gaurav Gupta, MD, KSRTC, said: “We are only reducing the operations from KBS to make way for the Metro work. But this does not mean that the entire station will be shut down.”
