After Namma Metro bulldozed the MG Road boulevard, here is some good news for those hurt by its action. Metro has started earmarking spaces for footpath.

Metro Corporation had planned to begin re-construction of the boulevard once the Reach 1 is completed by the end of 2010. The total cost involved was estimated at Rs5 crore which has now escalated to Rs7 crore due to delay, sources said.

BMRCL tried the tendering process to get agencies work on the boulevard, but no one came forward. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and horticulture department will be holding talks on the proposed boulevard work.

The plan for the boulevard includes sky walks and green canopy on MG Road from Anil Kumble Circle to Cauvery Emporium Junction. To add to the beauty, jacaranda and gulmohar trees will be planted along the road. Small water fountains and an open air theatre are also planned.

Meanwhile, civil works of the MG Road and Trinity Circle stations are on the verge of completion. Workers say they would soon start clearing up the entrance to these stations. Scrap iron and other construction debris left on the road side and footpath under the metro stations will also be cleared.

The staircases to the first floor of the stations are getting ready. A worker at MG Road station said that the work to level the station entrance and footpath will begin soon.

BMRCL is expecting the speed certificate from the Railway Design and Standard Operations in the coming days which will trigger safety inspections.
