Ex-chairman of Vishwa Bharathi House Building Co-operative Society Ltd B Krishna Bhat, who is facing the charge of contempt of court, appeared in the Karnataka high court on Monday.

The high court had directed the police to arrest and produce him in the court. Through an order dated March 4, 2010, the court had asked Bhat to submit the seniority list of the members of the society to enable BDA undertake bulk allotment of sites.

One B Srinivasa Rao had then filed a petition, alleging that the seniority list had not been furnished and Bhat had failed to honour the undertaking he had given to the court in this regard.

In the high court, the petitioner’s counsel asked that non-bailable warrant against Bhat be recalled. The ex-chairman of the co-operative society was brought to the hospital in an ambulance.

He was produced before the court in a wheelchair. His counsel produced a certificate by Apollo Hospitals, stating that he was undergoing treatment.

The division bench headed by justice N Kumar directed city police not to take any action for now and adjourned the hearing to September 7.

Former KPSC chief seeks bail
Former chairman of Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) HN Krishna, who is facing allegations of nepotism in appointments, has requested Karnataka high court to grant him anticipatory bail.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) police had filed a complaint against Krishna on August 11 this year. He is accused of irregularities in appointments made to group A and B posts of the KPSC during his tenure.

Apprehending arrest, Krishna had earlier applied for anticipatory bail in a fast track court. His plea was rejected because the investigation against him was not yet complete. Now he has approached the high court to seek anticipatory bail. Justice L Narayana Swamy heard the bail plea and adjourned it to next week after directing the state government to file its objections.

Krishna is accused of forcibly obtaining signature of one candidate Allah Baksh on some documents and using them to disqualify him from the KPSC job he had got by merit. Further, there are allegations against KPSC officials that they were biased against and inclined towards certain categories at various stages of selection.

In his application for anticipatory bail, Krishna has claimed he is innocent. Further, he has highlighted that the incident in question had taken place in 2005 but Baksh had chosen to complain after six years.

In the case of Kaleel Ahamed and 61 others—who had filed a writ petition in the high court alleging irregularities in appointments to Group A and B posts—the high court had on August 23 directed the CID to complete the investigation into the charges within six months.
