Two days after an SUV ran over a construction worker, killing him instantly, police are still clueless about the whereabouts of Manjula alias Mahi, 30, who was behind the wheel at the time of accident.

They are also confused about who should be booked in the case.

On Wednesday, the police revealed that Manjula, a resident of Babusahebpalya in Banaswadi, was separated from her husband and had been living alone for years.

They went to her sister’s house in Mysore, hoping to arrest her there, but her sister said she was neither aware of the accident nor did Manjula call her or visit her house.
Manjula’s cellphone remained switched off. But the call details showed that she had made several calls to a male friend in Mysore after the accident.
“We suspect that Manjula is in Mysore,” Venkataswamy, assistant commissioner of police (traffic east), said.
According to him, only Manjula would be booked in this case as her companion Ravi, 31, son of Muninarayana, a resident of Kottanur, was not driving the car.
But HM Meenakshi, police inspector (Banaswadi), said accused number one would be Manjula, accused number two would be Ravi and accused number three would be Raghavendra Patel for giving his car to Ravi.
MA Saleem, additional commissioner of police (traffic), said if Manjula did not have a driving licence, Ravi and Patel could also be booked.
“Unless she is caught, we can’t tell exactly,” he added.
Although Ravi was caught the next day, police did not subject him to a medical test since he was neither the owner of the vehicle nor responsible for the accident. However, his exact role would be known only when Manjula is caught, he said.
“Ravi told us that Manjula was not drunk and we took his statement,” he said.
