Bangalore girl shoots herself with dad’s gun

The 18-year-old daughter of a private security guard was found dead with bullet injuries at her house in Ramagundanahalli, Varthur, on Thursday morning.

Her father’s shotgun was found lying beside the body.
Identifying the deceased as Ambika, police said she had committed suicide after her parents forced her to get married.
Her parents, however, maintained that the gun went off accidentally, killing the girl.

Ambika’s father Muniswamy said he had kept the gun, provided to him by the security agency, behind a door as usual. The gun went off while Ambika was sweeping the floor on Thursday. She was killed instantly.

Varthur police inspector CK Ashwathnarayan said that Ambika did not attend school after matriculation, and the girl was opposed to her parents’ wish to see her married off. He said the girl committed suicide over this issue.

Ambika’s body was later shifted to the Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
