From September 1, the contact details of your area’s electrical engineer, junior engineer and power station will be just a few clicks away.

Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) will upload an interactive map carrying such details of the entire city on its website by September 1.

DNA had reported how the power utility company is working with Infosys to set up such a map to help linemen and engineers to spot problems related to power supply faster. One such map is partly ready and will be put to test soon.

A top Bescom official said that if the tests went well and the feedback was positive, Bescom would upload the map for all its users from September 1.

With this facility, consumers can click on the map and spot their street or area and also get details of the zone, circle, division, subdivision, and service station phone numbers.

The map identifies all the places where the Bescom  subdivisions are located and consumers can easily locate their area and subdivision.

At a wink of an eye, they can even get the personal and official contacts of the assistant engineer, assistant executive engineer and junior engineer.

This would help power consumers get their problem sorted out faster. Till date, there is only one helpline number which receives on an average over 500 calls a day from various jurisdictions of the city.

Once a consumer makes a call to this number, the problem is notified to the respective area assistant engineer and he or she passes on the work to the subsequent levels and finally it is the lineman who is asked to go with the equipment to fix the problem.

This facility will help consumers and also the area officers to reach to the problem spots faster.

“This positive step from the utility is consumer-friendly too. Indeed, this is necessary considering the rate of power cuts and the ageing infrastructure of the company,” said MR Raghunath Rao, resident of RMV II stage.

The map also has a search icon where you can enter your zone, circle, division and subdivision to get the contact details of the Bescom engineers of your area, if you know the basic details.

The company is in the process of adding details of all areas of various zones in Bangalore and is expected to be ready by the end of this month.
