The advocates’ indefinite boycott of court, protesting against ‘police atrocities,’ entered day eight on Monday, causing inconvenience to litigants and the public.

At 10.30 am on Monday, the president of the advocates’ association of Chennai and Bangalore, KN Subba Reddy, appeared before a division bench headed by Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and said that suo motto contempt proceedings should be initiated against the policemen and media for their action against advocates.

Justice Sen, however, said that the advocates must withdraw the strike before approaching the bench.

“We were told that the boycott is only for one day. Now it’s going on for days and the advocates are constantly coming up with more demands. Withdraw the strike and then approach me,” said the chief justice. Only a few lawyers were present in the high court and appeared before the benches.

Interestingly, some of the litigants pointed out that while majority of the legal fraternity want to go about their regular chores, a few advocates want to continue the boycott and are causing trouble to other advocates who want to attend the proceedings.
