Civic activist Mahindra Kumar Gandhi of India Against Corruption, a grassroots level apolitical people’s movement, will go on an indefinite hunger strike at Freedom Park at 10 am on Tuesday.

Over 100 activists will stage a 24-hour fast to show their solidarity with him.

The Bangalore event will coincide with social activist Anna Hazare beginning his indefinite fast in Mumbai on the same day.  Tuesday's fast, the third protest in the campaign by India Against Corruption, is to urge the government to implement the Jan Lokpal Bill.

On January 30, rallies were taken out in over 60 cities demanding the Jan Lokpal Bill.
On March 26, Dandi March II was taken out in 100 cities.

NRIs in the United States trekked 241 miles on that day, while 400 Bangaloreans walked 11 km to spread awareness about their campaign.

India Against Corruption volunteer Prithvi Reddy said that though Karnataka had one of the most efficient lok ayuktas, less than 2% of the cases investigated by the watchdog had resulted in prosecution. He blamed the situation on the archaic and ineffective anti-corruption laws in the country.

Reddy pointed out that the Jan Lokpal Bill was designed to create an effective anti-corruption and grievance redressal systems at the Centre and to assure that effective deterrent is created against corruption and to provide effective protection to whistleblowers.
