Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare, 75, is in Bangalore for naturopathy treatment, wherein he will resort to yogasanas and pranayam, among other things, to detoxify his body.
His 10-day treatment began on Thursday at Jindal Nature Cure Institute on Tumkur Road. AK Shreedhar, deputy manager, liaison department of the institute, said Hazare would undergo a drugless treatment, which would comprise breathing exercises, yogasanas, modest diet and physiotherapy.
The doctors have examined Anna’s medical history and have worked out a treatment plan accordingly.
Dr Babina Nandakumar, joint chief medical officer of the institute, said the septuagenarian was suffering from high blood pressure, arthritis, osteoporosis and general swelling of the body.
The doctor said Anna had been taking three medicines for blood pressure and cholestrol but they have not helped him much. Hazare will undergo blood tests, based on which his treatment would be charted out.
Dr Nandakumar said that Anna, during his 10-day treatment, would stay away from all nutrition supplements. In a couple of days, his medicines would be discontinued. He would undergo a fruit diet, hydro therapy, body massages, yogasanas and pranayama to begin with. For treatment of bronchitis, yogasana and drainage massage have been advised for him.
Prithvi Reddy of India Against Corruption said since childhood, Hazare has been inclined towards Ayurveda. Also, his body does not respond to allopathy treatment.
Reddy said in December, when Anna was suffering from bronchitis and was hospitalised, the mainstream drugs did not help him much.
Reddy said now that Hazare’s health was normal, he chose to undergo naturopathy treatment to detoxify his body.
