A 41-year-old businessman was reported missing under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday morning. The victim has been identified as Manoj Kumar Granthi, a jewelry merchant.
Granthi was headed towards Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) to catch a Mumbai flight on Tuesday morning, and nobody heard of his whereabouts after that.
Granthi, a resident of Vizag, was reportedly carrying Rs3 crore worth diamond and gold jewellery. A missing complaint was filed by Granthi’s relative Satish, who was waiting to receive him at the Mumbai airport. Satish tried calling Granthi’s cellphone, but it was switched off.
After numerous attempts to reach him, Satish contacted Granthi’s relatives Andhra Pradesh. But they did not have any information either. Satish rushed to Bangalore and filed a complaint with the BIAL police on Tuesday evening.
Investigations revealed that Granthi had come to Bangalore on business. He was looking forward to purchase some residential sites in the city. He stayed at ITC Gardenia Hotel, where he met a few other businessmen.
Granthi also met with a couple of his friends at the hotel. The BIAL police have formed two teams to trace the missing businessman.
Joint commissioner of police for crime (east) B Dayanand said: “We are investigating the case and we will soon trace him. We are not disclosing details about the case until we trace him.”
Deputy commissioner of police (south east) BR Ravikanthe Gowda said Granthi owneda jewelry shop, and he dealt with gold and diamond jewelry. Investigations revealed that Granthi left the hotel early Tuesday morning. He took a taxi and rushed to the airport to catch Kingfisher Airlines flight to reach Mumbai.
Police are also verifying the CCTV footages at the hotel.
