The police, on Monday, nabbed two burglars who had struck in Malleswaram on the same day.

Two men were arrested following a shootout in Hennur on Monday night. Those arrested are Ramesh, 27 and Harivu Murali, 22, natives of Katpadi, Tamil Nadu. Their three associates escaped during the shootout.

The police were on high alert on Monday night owing to Mahashivaratri. “The Hennur police inspector and constables were on a night patrol and saw some persons moving suspiciously near an apartment complex. Constables Kenchappa D Kollur and R Ramesh approached these persons to make enquiries and the dacoits attacked the duo with weapons,” said police commissioner BG Jyothi Prakash Mirji.

Hennur inspector G Prabhakar then sought back up. In the meantime, they gave a chase to the dacoits. When the burglars attacked the police, Prabhakar opened fire. “I fired five bullets and three bullets struck two miscreants. They were arrested,” said Prabhakar.

“The burglars who escaped left behind a briefcase at the spot and we found gold jewellery, silver articles and voter identity cards. Later, we learnt they committed a crime in Malleswaram,” said deputy commissioner of police (east) Chandrashekar.
