Former president APJ Abdul Kalam on Tuesday inaugurated the Robert Bosch Centre for Research in Cyber Physical Systems at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

Kalam said that the Centre should focus on developing innovative systems for automobiles, which can run on bio-fuel.

“Worldwide, 30 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide is generated every day by burning fossil fuels. We must get rid of fossil fuels by developing injection systems for automobiles, which can run on bio-fuel. The centre must look at developing such systems,” he said.

The establishment of this centre is part of the global initiative ‘Bosch InterCampus Programme.’

The cyber-physical systems will address green technology and conserve energy in buildings.

Bosch is creating a campus for IT design, cyber-physical systems, mobility solutions, and renewable energy in collaboration with the IISc.

“By establishing this centre, we reiterate our commitment and responsibility to the society we live in. Technology solutions need to keep pace with life, and at the same time young talented researchers need our assistance,” said VK Viswanathan, president, Bosch, India.

He added that of the Rs300 crore allotted by Bosch Group to provide support for universities and research projects in Germany, China, India and the US over the next 10 years, about Rs140 crore would be allotted to India.
