Bangalore: Advocates in Karnataka today decided to abstain from duty on November 9 in protest against Chief Justice PD Dinakaran continuing to preside over court proceedings despite the Supreme Court Collegium putting on hold his elevation to the apex court following land grabbing charges.
At its special general body meeting here, the Advocates Association of Bangalore (AAB) passed a resolution on abstaining and appealed to other bar associations in the state to follow suit.
"We unanimously oppose Justice Dinakaran continuing his sittings in the high court despite his name being "delinked" from four other judges whose names have been cleared for elevation to Supreme Court, following land grabbing allegations against him", AAB president KN Puttegowda told PTI. He said the decision had been taken to "uphold the dignity of the judiciary".
The AAB had yesterday appealed to chief justice of India KG Balakrishnan to expedite a decision over the matter, saying "delay might lead to irreparable damage to the reputation of the institution".
