Bangalore-based IVRCL Infrastructure and Projects Corporation on Friday alleged that the kidnapping of its deputy manager recently was to prevent him from bidding for the Rs100 crore Mangalore special economic zone project.

The company also alleged that despite filing a complaint, there was no action taken by the police.

“We have given the numbers of the car and the mobile phone from which we received a call about the kidnapping, to the police. But, they have not taken any action till now. We suspect the involvement of a political leader in this kidnapping,” BN Sathish, senior manager of the company, said.

Rajesh Achari had gone to Mangalore for the bidding and was staying in a hotel. On August 16, 2010, the day of the bidding, three unidentified persons forcibly took him away in a car. They returned only after the bidding process was over. Later, Achari was put on a Bangalore-bound bus and his belongings including the briefcase were returned to him.
