Suicide rates in the city are skyrocketing. On Wednesday, the city witnessed three suicides.

In the first incident, a 24-year-old woman set herself ablaze by dousing her body with kerosene. She died while undergoing treatment in Victoria Hospital. The deceased Sheela is a resident of Garebhavipalya and the wife of a BMTC bus conductor, Manjunath.

Sheela, allegedly, was having an illicit relationship with her 22-year-old neighbour Sandeep. On Wednesday, after her husband left for work, she invited Sandeep home as she was in dire need of money. When he came home, she doused kerosene on herself and Sandeep, setting the bodies on fire.

Hearing the screams, her neighbour Gopal rushed into the house and managed to douse the fire. He immediately rushed the victims to a nearby private hospital. The doctors, however, suggested that he take them to Victoria Hospital. While Sandeep managed to escape with minor burns, Sheela died while undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered in Electronics City police station. Investigations are on.

In another incident, a 39-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide on Thursday morning in her house in Attur Layout, in Yelahanka Newtown. The deceased Shoba is the wife of a head constable Somashekar of Devanahalli police station.

Shoba has been sick for several years. She was undergoing treatment, but in vain. Shoba committed suicide by consuming poison, police said.

In another incident, a 60-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in his house by hanging himself from a ceiling fan. The deceased Sitaram is a resident of 14 Cross in Yelahanka Newtown.

He has been suffering from stomachache for the past five years.
The treatment he was undergoing did not help much. So Sitaram was left with no choice but take the extreme step, police said. Both cases have been registered in Yelahanka Newtown police station.
