Two people have been detained for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl over three months by enticing her with chocolates and other confectioneries.
The arrested were Farooq, 34, of DG Halli and Imran, 28, of Shivajinagar.
Farooq owns a chicken stall near the girl’s home in Kodandarama Layout. He was a friend of her father Altaf, an auto driver, and he used to visit their house often.
The fourth grader’s mother, Parveen Banu, did not find anything odd when Farooq took the girl round to the nearby shops. She grew suspicious only when her daughter started complaining of stomach pain. She found her daughter tense and disturbed. On further enquiry, the girl kept quiet.
Banu then questioned her younger son. He said his sister suffered such aches after she began going out with ‘Farooq uncle’. He also told her that whenever his sister failed to visit Farooq, he used to ask him to bring her to his shop. The boy innocently obeyed him.
Banu again questioned her daughter, who finally narrated her horrid tale. Imran, who runs another shop, was Farooq’s accomplice.
She said besides chocolates, Farooq used to give her Rs5 or Rs10. During their last ride, he also offered her juice, she said.
Banu later filed a complaint with the Commercial Street police.
The girl told the police that the two men raped her. The police said the two had been arrested and an investigation is under way.
According to the police, Farooq lured the girl by offering her chocolates. He took her to shops and bought her whatever she asked. He also took her on a trip in the car and raped her, added the police.
The girl was subjected to a medical test and the police are waiting for the report.
