80% work completed on Bangalore Metro stations

Work in six stations of Bangalore Metro’s Reach One project from Byappanahalli to MG Road is complete by almost 80% with only some track and interior designing works remaining.

At the Byappanahalli depot, the station at the ground level is waiting to be furnished with electrical fittings and wall paintings, while the girders for the skywalk near the Swami Vivekananda Station on SV Road, are waiting to be fitted to the concourse of the station building.

Sources in Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said the girders had to be bolted and the structures put across the road, similar to the one on MG Road.

“We need to put the mainframe of the foot-over bridge across SV Road, which will again halt traffic on this stretch for a minimum of 24 hours. We have requested the traffic police to give us dates when we can go ahead with the work,” said a BMRCL source. Meanwhile, work is being carried out at the Mahatma Gandhi station on MG Road with the installation of elevators and escalators leading to the platforms on the second floor. The windows and ticket counters will also be given the final touches soon, sources said.

The concourses in all the six elevated stations have ticket counters, automated fare-collecting gates, elevators, escalators and huge walking spaces within. For the visually impaired, ductile flooring is provided to guide them right from the entrance of the stations to the platform levels. “We hope to finish the track work on the two stations on MG Road by this week and then begin the trial run extensively on the entire stretch,” an official said.
