Four more mega parks on the lines of city landmark Cubbon Park would come up in four areas, Karnataka forest minister CH Vijayashankar said today.

"We have identified the land and it's available within city limits," he said at a meet-the-press programme, organised by the Press Club of Bangalore and Bangalore Reporters' Guild.

Vijayashankar said such mega parks are also planned in all district headquarters.

He said under the agro-forestry promotion scheme, farmers would be give saplings of their choice and also maintenance incentive of Rs10 per sapling in the first year, Rs15 in the second and Rs20 in the third year.

Officials said under the scheme three crore saplings would be distributed every year for the next five years for planting in lands of farmers. It would be implemented in association with Village Forest Committees and Self Help groups.

They said an amount of Rs50 crore has been provided for this purpose, adding that the Government would take suitable steps to cover these plants under agriculture loan scheme.

Vijayashankar also said that "One sapling for a child, one forest for a school" programme would be taken up in the state and the government would ensure that the interested children are given the sapling of their choice.
