Check-posts will be set up at the city exit points on all major roads.
The rider’s licence and vehicle documents will be checked. If these are not in order, the vehicle would be seized and the rider will be taken into custody for questioning to check whether the two-wheeler is stolen. The special police team will be headed by an assistant sub-inspector and comprise head constables and constables. However, Mirji did not disclose the size of the team.
The recent arrest of R Kannan, a 28-year-old native of Hosur, prompted the police to take this step. The police had recovered 21 motorcycles and three cars. Kannan sold the vehicles in Tamil Nadu for a measly `2,500 to `5,000.
