The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police raided two bars in the city and arrested 26 persons.

While 22 bar girls were arrested for performing ‘obscene acts,’ four men were held in connection with forcing the girls to attract customers with obscenity.

The arrests were made at two bars, Four Seasons, SR Nagar, owned by president of Karnataka Women’s Workers Association, Sanjay Kochar and Chef in Delux Bar, in Mekhri Circle.

The raids occurred on Thursday night. Kochar, who was not present at the bar at the time of the raid, had earlier denied allegations that girls were performing dance shows and indulging in obscene behaviour with customers.

Following the raids, two inspectors — B Ramamurthy of SR Nagar police station and S Panduranga of Sadashivanagar police station — were suspended for their failure to prevent the obscene acts.

Four Seasons comes under the jurisdiction of SR Nagar police station and Chef falls within Sadashivanagar.

During the raid on Chef around 10:30pm, the CCB team found the girls skimpily clad and attempting to seduce  customers.

Many of the girls arrested were from North India or Nepal. The four men held were identified as HS Sathish, 30, resident of Yelahanka and native of Shimoga,  G Ravi, 38, resident of Ganganagar,  Loganathan, 39, and Manikanta, 26, both natives of Tamil Nadu.

Cases have been registered under the provisions of Section 294 of the IPC (obscene acts) and the Karnataka Excise Act, against both bars.
