10 killed in Belgaum road accident

Ten persons, including eight women, were killed and 15 others injured when a lorry in which they were travelling rammed into a truck at Salahalli village about 100 km from here on Sunday, police said.

While nine passengers died on the spot, one succumbed to her injuries in hospital, Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Patil said.

The injured have been admitted to government hospitals in Bagalokot and Mudhol. The mishap occurred when the lorry with 25 villagers hit the truck from behind. The villagers were proceeding from Sholapur to Belgaum to attend a marriage, he said. As per preliminary investigation, the accident occurred due to the fault of the driver of the lorry, Patil said. “However, the cause is still being investigated and the bodies are yet to be identified,” he said.      (With inputs from PTI)
