It was the passion to travel and the fervour to find new destinations that led software professional Vipul Kasera to start Lifeisoutside — a web platform that discovers innovative destinations, that make for an unforgettable weekend getaway.

An elephant ride, a little rafting or just spending the night in a traditional tribal village — these are some of the things that the web portal can plan for you.

Meant specifically for Bangaloreans, Lifeisoutside helps people find a place of their choice depending on criteria such as budget and interests.  Most of the places recommended on the portal are niche travel destinations that are just four to five hours away from Bangalore and fall within a radius of 500km — ideal for a short break or a weekend getaway.

Kasera says, “The portal liaisons with travel destination providers (home stays, resorts), who don’t have the means of reaching out to the masses. We then send out a team that surveys the place and if it’s good, it gets listed on our website.”

Kasera’s team is always on the look out for off-beat destinations, which he says, “involves a lot of research”. First, a team of experts identifies properties and explores site pictures and maps. “After which, we personally review each getaway on the site to ensure that only the best are featured,” says Kasera, adding, “This also allows us to explain what exactly one can expect at each location.”

Lifeisoutside has quirky packages such as ‘livelihood holidays’, which allows the city-bred to experience a day in the life of a fisherman, potter, farmer or even a blacksmith. “One can choose a livelihood holiday, that fascinates him/her and have a ‘one of its kind’ holiday,” says Kasera. “Here one lives with either a farmer or potter or fisherman doing what they do for a living,” he explains.
Not just that, the portal also arranges ‘theme holidays’ at their concept resorts, where one can lead the life of a cowboy — where he/she will get to see how cheese is processed, ride horses etc.

One can also plan a wildlife getaway in the wilderness of Mudumalai or a soulful, luxurious vacation at an eco-beach resort in Pondicherry, or a place tucked away in the pristine and untouched valleys of Avalanche near Ooty.

“If you just want to relax and rejuvenate you can also choose to holiday in a private retreat with all contemporary luxuries nestled amidst sprawling coffee plantations to reflect, rejuvenate and commune with nature,” says Kasera. Rituparn and his family recently went to Pondicherry and for them “the experience was quite an unforgettable one.”

“At a minimum expenditure of Rs1,200 per day, one can get accommodation, food and fun,” says Kasera. The portal also specialises in corporate packages, which offer a wide-range of activities that can span across one day events like paintball, rafting and also customised weekend breaks.
