Social activist Anna Hazare said the UPA government was hesitating to introduce a strong Jan Lokpal Bill in Parliament so that it may safeguard several of its tainted ministers.

Addressing a public meeting in Gadag on Tuesday, Hazare said, “We will intensify the agitation if the Union government fails to introduce the strong Lokpal Bill before parliamentary elections next year.”

“The Union government is hatching conspiracy to suppress anti-graft movement launched by me, instead of punishing the corrupt leaders in the cabinet. I will not relent, instead urge more youth to launch agitation against the UPA before next Lok Sabha elections,” he added.

Hazare said he planned to mobilise about 6 crore people by next year and dislodge the UPA government for not implementing an effective Lokpal bill.

“More than 90% of the corruption menace can be curbed through the Bill along with right to recall and reject, Citizen Charter,” he said.

While interacting with farmers at Tonradarya Mutt, Hazare said differences in opinion among pro-farmer organisations had to stop, “I have emphasised the need to come together to rid the farmers from various problems. We will focus on strengthening these organisations,” he stated.
