Think video games are just plain bad for your children and that you need to keep them away from gaming consoles at all costs? Well, Navin Rajendran, a graduate from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and the co-founder of the Bangalore-based Gamineazy Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, says that the gaming experience can be productive and that it ought to be for the whole family as an experience.

”We want to make gaming accessible to everyone and motion gaming has made it possible for us to make the experience a pleasurable one for all ages,” says Rajendran citing the emergence of Wii Nintendo, X-Box Kinect and Playstation Move, that are marketed as game consoles that usher in a more family friendly gaming experience. One of the biggest misconceptions out there is that video games are meant only for teenage boys, says Rajendran, who adds there are plenty of gaming options for all age groups.

”Young girls and teenagers come to our store to play a lot of dance-based games and we host so many events like girls-only parties and gaming marathons,” he says. However, parents do need to be wary of the kind of games they expose their children to, he warns.

”Every game comes with a rating system that would help parents figure out whether their child is suited for a particular game or not. But I’m often unpleasantly surprised at the amount of money that young kids are allowed to carry with them which means they can buy these games on their own. Which is why people in our store actually do not let children play games that might introduce them to sex, gore or violence,” he explains.

Motion gaming also ensures children and adults get some physical exercise as well. ”In fact, we have even set up these gaming consoles in IT companies, so employees will be able to get some physical exercise to relieve some stress during work,” he adds.

Bored this summer? Here’s Rajendran’s list of must-have games for every age group:
Girls: Just Dance 4 is a great game that can be played by a group. It has great music and a team of four can play it at a time.

Age group 5-7: Kinect Sports is very popular with this age group. You can play everything from table tennis to boxing.

Young adults
: Any new gamer should start with racing games because it is easier to get hooked with. Blur is one such game that is absolutely fantastic and gives you a thrilling experience.

Parents: Mothers love Grand Slam Tennis 2 where they can play as well known tennis players and parents in general seem to gravitate towards Play-station’s Sports Champion.
