Two days after Kannada writer and columnist VR Bhat commented on a social networking site about rape against women, the minister for women and child welfare, Umashree has taken up the issue seriously and written a letter to the home minister and city police commissioner asking for stringent action against the writer.

On Monday, while replying to a post, VR Bhat had commented 'Nimmanthaha Mahileyarannu juttu hididu athyachara madabeku' (you women should be raped holding your ponytail), on the account of Phabha N Belavangala, state secretary of the Bharatiya Jnana Vijanana Samiti (BGVS), in a social networking website.

Minister Umashree on Wednesday has written a letter to Home Minister, KJ George and City Police commissioner MN Reddy complaining about VR Bhat for his abrupt usage of language on a woman on Monday.

Minister Umashree in her letter to Home Minister and City Police Commissioner said that, it is a shame on the writer to use such filthy language and words on a women. Provoking others through the words is equal to committing crime and this incident is equal to rape. The writer must be punished for his mistake and women should be given justice, Umashree stated in her letter. mybangalore@dnaindia.net
