The Ramamurthynagar police have cracked the murder case of a 75-year-old retired LRDE scientist and his wife and have nabbed two 17-year-old boys in this connection. The double murder was reported in OMBR Layout near Banasawadi on March 4. Investigations revealed that it was a murder for gain.
Pattabhiraman Naidu, a retired defense scientist at LRDE, and his wife Indira, 65 were strangulated to death. Among the two minors, one was a relative of Naidu. Both are residents of Uttarahalli and one is a first PU student while the other is a diploma student.
Police said the first PU student, who was Naidu's relative, had come to know that the couple had money with them. Just two days before the murder, he had visited the couple's house and Naidu had taken the boy to an ATM kiosk to help him withdraw the money. The boy was knowing the PIN of the debit card and learnt that there was about Rs. 2.5 lakh in the account.
"He along with the diploma student hatched a plot to murder them and rob their money. Accordingly, the duo went to Naidu's house on March 4 afternoon. They had some snacks after which they attacked the couple and strangulated them using a saree. Then they searched for valuables in the house and took away some cash and gold jewels," the police added.
The incident had come to light when couple's son Chandrashekhar, who works as a lab technician at a private college in Maratthalli, returned home in the evening. "Based on his complaint, the investigation was done. Earlier there was no clue about the accused. Later, through analysis of mobile phone signals, we zeroed in on the two boys. Also, it was learnt that one of them had visited the couple two days before the incident. Based on these clues, he was picked up for questioning and he confessed to the crime," the police explained.
The police have recovered cash, gold and silver articles and a two wheeler from the minors. Further investigations are on.
