Meet Bharath Kumar HR, who aspires to be a national-level hockey player. After Kumar lost his father three years ago, he had nowhere to go to and had taken to the streets of Kengeri Satellite Town. However, life had it otherwise for him, and today he is determined to make a mark in the society and lead a dignified life.

It all happened when a parish priest, pitied by his condition, brought him to Bosco Mane in Chamarajpet, where orphans and street children are given shelter.

“I lost my mother many years ago. I was in a dilemma when I lost my father too three years ago. I am very grateful to the parish priest who brought me to Bosco Mane,” said Kumar.

After joining Bosco Mane, Kumar decided to pursue studies and joined St Joseph’s High School.

“I have to start with sixth standard again. Now, I am studying in 8th standard, apart from taking part in sports. My favourite games are hockey and football,” said Kumar.

He has won over 30 medals in football and hockey competitions at school-level and club-level events. “I have been undergoing hockey training at the hockey stadium in Shanthinagar. My aim is to become a national-level hockey player,’’ he said. He was quick to add that he intends to help street children after he becomes self-reliant. “I think the need of the hour is to provide shelter and help them  (street children) pursue higher studies and encourage them to participate in sports if they are interested,” he said.

Appreciating his hard work and dedication,  Rev Binny Kulpukal of Bosco Mane said Kumar would have a bright future if he continues to work hard and study well. “There is a lot of improvement in studies and sports.  We will support him as long as he studies. As of now, he is attending hockey coaching at the hockey stadium,” said Rev Kulpukal.

Presently, Kumar is all set to receive a Keerthi Chakra Award from Bosco Mane on November 14.
