To commemorate the 14th anniversary of Operation Vijay, an NGO, Flags of Honour Foundation, on Friday organised a painting competition at Bal Bhavan, Cubbon Park.

The painting competition, themed as Palette of Freedom, was organised to remember the sacrifices and in an effort to honour the often-forgotten heroes and to instil a sense of responsibility, civic pride and respect for the armed forces of the country among the young.

The competition saw the participation of over 150 students from classes 4 to 12 imaginative expressions of the valour of the Kargil heroes. The Junior category comprising of students from Grade 4 to 7 expressed themselves through paint, the theme “Guardians Of Our Country: The Indian Armed Forces” while the Senior category for Grade 8-12 brought alive “Acts of Extraordinary Services and Valour By Our Armed Forces”.

Col MB Ravindranath, commanding officer of the 2 Rajputana Rifles during Operation Vijay and a judge in the competition, narrated to the students the challenges that the Indian forces faced during the Kargil conflict.

The winners will be facilitated at a special Flags of Honour Walkathon to be held on July 26 which is observed as Kargil Vijay Diwas as it marks India’s victory over Pakistan in the conflict that claimed lives of more than 500 Indian soldiers.
