Despite its proximity to Bengaluru International Airport, Cholanagar remains neglected. Residents complain of skeletal bus services, narrow roads, insufficient water supply and improper garbage disposal.

They do not have enough buses plying to the area. Many a time, they have to wait for long hours for a bus. Autorickshaw drivers charge as much as `40 to cover even 2km.

“Earlier, there was one bus operating from this area to KR Market. Over the years, two more buses began operating from Majestic and Shivaji Nagar to Cholanagar. But after some time, these buses stopped serving the area,” S Usha, a resident, said.

“So a person has to walk 2km by foot to reach Airport Road or RT Nagar to board a bus. It could be better to add smaller feeder buses which would help us reach there as the roads are too narrow,” she said.

Garbage is another problem facing the residents of this area. The waste generated in households are not cleared every day leading to health problem.

“The garbage collector comes only once in a week and people are forced to throw waste on empty sites. A huge drain runs through the area and people find it convenient to dispose of their waste into this drain. The drain is filled with garbage and mosquitoes breed posing a serious threat to our health,” said Rajesh Kumar, a resident.

After digging up the space along the road to lay cables and pipes, agencies do not bother to recarpet it making it difficult for pedestrians and vehicles to move smoothly.

“These roads are dug up frequently and are not covered properly. They take years to repair the roads, and mostly do it only when the elections are close by,”Prakash Shetty, a resident, said. The local corporator was unavailable to comment on the issue.
