Former Union minister SM Krishna will inaugurate Congress party’s padayatras on January 7 from Tungabhadra dam in Hospet. KPCC president G Parameshwar said on Thursday that four padayatras highlighting people’s problems would take place through March, covering 560 km.
The first padayatra from Tungabhadra dam is titled ‘Congress walk from Tunga to Krishna.’ ‘’During the padayatra between January 7 and 14, the people of the region will be informed about the party’s plans of reserving Rs10,000 crore in every budget for the implementation of irrigation projects in Krishna basin. The ruling BJP government had promised to spend as much as Rs17,000 crore. However, the party ended up spending just `500 crore, Parameshwar said.
The Krishna river project can irrigate as much as 25 lakh acre of land. During the padayatra, people of the region will be told that Congress will be committed to the implementation of the projects, he said.
The second series of padayatra will be held in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region in the first week of February. During the march, Congress will woo the voters by promising special status to the region. The party will take another series of padayatra to create communal harmony in the coastal region. The march titled ‘Congress walk towards creating communal harmony’ will be held in the last week of February or in the first week of March.
The fourth march will be organised in March between Bangalore and Mysore to create awareness among the people about corruption and casteism practiced by the BJP government.
All top leaders including Siddaramaiah and SR Patil will participate in the padayatras.
Meantime, Parameshwar demanded the governor to intervene and ensure the appointment of Lokayukta, following the Gujarat model, in Karnataka.
