Hundreds of students from Mount Carmel College staged a silent rally in Vasanthanagar on Tuesday as a mark of protest against the recent alleged sexaul assualt of a six-year old child in the Vibgyor High school.

According to Sonali Kanavi, student, MCC, "The silent march was not only to intensify the brutality of the very act of rape and it was also for spreading an awareness to put an end to any kind of disrespect shown toward women. Girls all over have been subject to either eve teasing, obscure comments passed, harassment and so on."

Amorette Grace Lyngwa, student, MCC, said, "The rally to support the cause and to let everyone know about the agitation. It is like a symbol so that the victim know that we are with them in the fight and to support them throughout the trial for justice. Youth are against the the gruesome crime that take take place against women everyday."

Irked by the laxity of the government, Gayatri Manu, said, "The government should spread awareness about the issue and ensure that the culprits are arrested. The chief minister should understand that staying awake during the discussion about women's safety is not an obligation but a duty."

Meanwhile talking about the sneers from the people, Nithya V, said, "Although the rally was to show our support and encouragement to the victim, there were many men who were standing at the sidewalks outside shops leering at the girls walking. Just a walk rally will not be sufficient for such an issue, but the youths are definitely part of the agitation that is going on."
